HP LaserJet Status/Error Codes - Other

Error Message	Printer	Description/Action Required
FC No Font	IIISi	The font cartridge could not be read by the printer. Re-insert the cartridge and press Continue or online to resume operation. If the error persists, replace the font cartridge.
FC (top, bottom, both left, right)	All	The font cartridge was removed while the printer was offline and contained buffered print data. Re-insert font cartridge(s) and press Continue.
FE Cartridge FE Font Cart Err	All	The font cartridge was removed or installed while the printer was online. Turn the printer off and back on to clear the message.
FI Insert Cart FI Insert Top FI Insert Btm	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4P, 4Si	An accessory cartridge was removed while the printer was in an error state. Insert the accessory cartridge and clear any pending error conditions before removing the cartridge.
FR Remove Cart FR Remove Top FR Remove Btm	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4P	An accessory cartridge was inserted while the printer was in an error state. Remove the accessory cartridge and clear any pending error condition before inserting the cartridge.
Blank LCD	SII, IIP, IIP Plus, IID, III, IIID, IIIP, IIISi, 4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4P, 4MP, 4Si, 4Si	Printer cannot generate sufficient voltage levels to activate the display panel or the display panel and/or related circuitry is defective. Verify AC power supply and cord are OK. Turn the printer off, wait 10 to 15 minutes, then turn it back on. If the display remains blank, service is required.
Blank LED	LaserJet, Plus, 500 Plus	Printer cannot generate sufficient voltage levels to activate the display panel or the display panel and/or its related circuitry is defective. Verify AC power supply and cord are OK.
Config Lang	IIP, IIP+, IID, III, IIIP, IIID, IIISi, 4, 4Mplus, 4P, 4MP	The printer was turned on while holding down the ENTER key. This allows the operator to select a local language for display. See Language below.
Language=XX	IIP, IIP+, IID, III, IIIP, IIID, IIISi	This status message will default to Language = English Press the + (plus) or - (minus) key to select one of six languages. Press ENTER key once, then put printer back online.
MF Ready	IIP, IIP+, IIIP	The printer is displaying a status message indicating the front panel selection of manual feed being turned on. Insert paper into the multi-purpose tray to continue.
MF Feed [paper size]	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4Si MX, 4P, 4MP	The printer requested that media be manually fed. Paper size may be: Letter, Legal, Exec, or A4. Insert the appropriate media size into the MP tray (Manual feed guides on HP LaserJet 4Si Printer) and press online to print or press Continue to feed from the Paper Cassette. On the HP LaserJet 4P Printer insert the appropriate media into the manual feed slot and it will automatically pull the paper.
ME Feed envelope	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4Si MX, 4P, 4MP	The printer requested that an envelope be manually fed. Envelope size may be: COM 10, Monarch, DL, C5, B5, or Envelope. Insert the appropriate envelope size into the MP tray (Manual feed guides on HP LaserJet 4Si Printer) and press online to print. On the HP LaserJet 4P Printer insert the appropriate media in the manual feed slot and it will automatically pull the paper.
MP Load LC Load LE Load	IIP, IIP+, IIIP	This message appears when the multi-purpose tray, the lower cassette or lower envelope tray are empty and have been chosen by the front panel as the selected paper tray. Load correct paper size and put the printer back online. Verify MP (Multi-Purpose) and LE (Lower Envelope) sizes are properly set.
MPLoad PCLoad LCLoad [paper size]	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus	The printer received a request for a paper or envelope size not available in the printer (or the tray is empty). The MP=Multi-Purpose, PC=Paper Cassette and LC =Lower Cassette. Paper size may be Letter, Legal, Exec, OR A4; for MP Tray, envelope may be COM10, Monarch, DL, C5, or B5. Load the correct paper tray and/or media or press continue to use the media in the installed tray.
	4Si, 4SiMX	The printer received a request for a paper size not available in the printer or both paper trays are empty. The UC=Upper Cassette and LC =Lower Cassette. Paper size may be Letter, Legal, Exec or A4. Load the correct paper size in tray or press continue to use the media in the installed tray.
EE Load COM10 EE Load Monarch EE Load DL EE Load C5 EE Load B5 EE Load Envelope	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4SiMX	The printer received a request for an envelope size that is not currently loaded in the optional envelope feeder or the feeder is empty. Load the correct envelope size into the feeder, or press Continue to use the size of media installed in the feeder.
MP Empty LC Empty LE Empty	IIP, IIP+, IIIP	This message appears when the multi-purpose tray, the lower cassette, or lower envelope tray is empty and is not the selected paper tray. Because the message refers to a non-selected paper tray, it does not require the tray to be filled for the printer to function. It is merely a reminder that the tray is empty.
PC Tray Empty LC Tray Empty	4Plus, 4MPLus	Add paper to empty tray. PC=Paper Cassette, LC=Lower Cassette.
PC-65	Laserjet, Plus, 500 Plus	This is not a PC message. It is a PC B5 message. The printer is asking for the same paper length (size) that was requested by the software.
PC Install	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4V, 4MV	Lower Cassette is selected as the paper source. The printer has detected that the Paper Cassette, which serves as a paper guide for the Lower Cassette, is not installed. Install (or reseat) Paper Cassette.
User maintenance	IIISi, 4Si, 4SiMX	This message appears after 200,000 pages have been run through the printer. It is a User Maintenance message indicating that certain parts should be replaced in the printer (or maintenance should be performed). These parts are purchased via the Printer Maintenance Kit (part number C2062A) and can be obtained by contacting either an HP Authorized Dealer or the Support Materials Organization The parts included in this kit are as follows: Fusing Assembly Transfer Roller and Transfer Roller Clip Pick-Up and Separation Rollers Duplex Pick-Up Roller (If installed) These are User Replaceable parts. The directions for completing this maintenance come with the Printer Maintenance Kit and can also be found in the User's Manual (HP LaserJet IIISi printer) or Operator's Guide (HP LaserJet 4Si printer). This message will appear again after every 200,000 copies and user maintenance is recommended at this point. The message will be displayed on the control panel until it is cleared. The message is cleared by changing Service Msg=Off in the Config menu of the printer on the HP LaserJet IIISi printer or changing User Maintenance=Off in the Config menu on the HP LaserJet 4Si printer. Clearing the message will reset the internal maintenance page counter (not the same as page count listed on self-test) to zero.
Switching To	IIISi	This message indicates the printer's language is in the process of being changed from PCL to PostScript (R) or from PostScript to PCL.
PCL Print Menu	IIISi	In PCL mode, this message appears for one second before the PCL Printing Menu appears when the Menu key is pressed once.
PCL Config	IIISi	In PCL mode, this message appears for one second before the PCL Configuration Menu appears when the Menu key is pressed and held for about five seconds.
Clearable Warning Messages	4, 4M, 4SI, 4Si MX, 4P, 4MP	A "clearable warning" appears when the printer receives a print command that requires an option to be installed (such as additional memory or a PostScript SIMM). Depending on the situation, the printer will automatically reduce resolution, lower the level of page protection, compress the data, or abort the print job. The printer first attempts to satisfy the print request by reducing resolution, then by lowering the level of page protection, then by compressing the data if possible. If it receives a job for an uninstalled personality (such as PostScript) or requires more memory than is available, the job is aborted. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W1 Image Adapt	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4P	The printer received a graphics print file that was too complex to print at the requested resolution. The printer automatically processes the file in the highest resolution possible with the memory installed. Add additional memory to print the file at full resolution. Check the printout for loss of data or print quality. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W2 Invalid Pers	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4P, 4MP	The job was not printed because the requested personality, such as PostScript (MP), was not installed. Install the language in which the files are sent, together with enough memory to support that language. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W3 Job Aborted	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4P, 4MP	The printer was forced to abort the print job because there was not enough memory to support the printer language used. Add more memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W4 Job 300/Off	4, 4M, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 300 dpi with page protection off. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W4 Job 300/Off	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 300 dpi with page protection off. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W5 Job 300/Ltr	4, 4M, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 300 dpi with page protection set to letter. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W6 Job 300/A4	4, 4M, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 300 dpi with page protection set to A4. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W7 Job 300/Lgl	4, 4M, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 300 dpi with page protection set to legal. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W8 Job 600/Off	4, 4M, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 600 dpi with page protection off. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W9 Job 600/Ltr	4, 4M, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 600 dpi with page protection set to letter. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
W0 Job 600/A4	4, 4M, 4Si, 4P	The job was printed at 600 dpi with page protection set to A4. To print the job as requested, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
WM Job 300	4, 4M, 4Plus, 4Mplus	The job was printed at 300 dpi. Note: If this message occurs frequently, install additional memory. Clear message by pressing SHIFT and Continue on the printer.
WM Mem Cnfig N/A	4Plus, 4Mplus, 4Si, 4Si MX	The printer did not have enough memory when switched on to support the previous settings for I/O buffering and/or Resource Saving, probably because a memory SIMM was removed or a new personality SIMM was added Because of these configuration changes, resource saving or I/O buffering is no longer available. If these options are desired, print a Self-Test page. Check the configuration settings, then reconfigure them. To reflect any changes made to the printer. * This message can also occur if the optional duplex unit has been added to the HP LaserJet 4Plus, 4Mplus printer.
WM Chk Mem Cnfig	4Plus, 4Mplus	I/O buffering and/or Resource Saving settings were altered when the printer was switched on because the printer did not have enough memory. This usually occurs after memory has been removed from the printer. (Check settings by printing a self-test.)
Wm Check Mem Mgt	4Si, 4Si MX	There is still sufficient memory to accommodate resource saving, but the current setting cannot be satisfied by the available memory. Reconfigure the resource saving for the current personality.
WM [personality] Mem Full	4Plus, 4Mplus	The Resource saving memory area for the specified personality is full. Press SHIFT and Continue to continue printing (some data will be lost). The current job will print, but some resources (downloaded fonts, etc.) may not be saved. If this error occurs frequently, you may need to adjust Resource Saving settings.
