File Types List

This section of the site provides a list of the common file types that Macintosh and PC users are likely to come across and the applications they are associated with. The file type is normally identified by a 3 letter code at the end of the filename, ie .PDF signifies an Adobe Acrobat document and .PUB a Microsoft Publisher document.

The list is in no way complete and should be used mainly as a guideline, as there are no fixed rule on what extension a file can have, ie .XLS normally signifies an Excel spreadsheet, but nothing is stopping another program from using .XLS as the extension for its files.
